This is for all you girls who struggle with low self-confidence. This is for all you women who let what others think of you define what you will and won’t do. This is for all you sisters in Christ who believe the lies that you are not capable of achieving your dreams....Read More
Have you ever been angry at God for letting you go through a difficult trial? Maybe you are dealing with illness, loss, or pain in any other form. It seems unfair and confusing sometimes for people that a good God would allow such pain in the world. I used to think I understood why, and I was confident that my faith was strong enough to endure painful trials whenever they should come. Then, I came into a period of suffering in my life that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, and suddenly doubts, fear, and intense anger towards God began swirling through my mind.Read More
I am not living my dream. No, my dream consisted of being a homemaker and mom with well-behaved kids who started “preschool” at home by a year old. My dream kids knew their numbers, colors, and alphabet by the time they were two. In my dream life, my house was clean, I read my Bible daily, I showered and put on makeup each morning, and I made tasty snacks for playdates with the many friends I had. In my dream life, I was wearing clean clothes and my hair was curled when I greeted my husband at the door with a kiss each day. My husband and I rarely fought, because communication was our strong point and deep conversation was our favorite way to spend time together...Read More
Well, friends, it looks like I’m a couple weeks late in posting this. Guess what happened—I got back on social media and got so sucked in and distracted again that I didn’t make time for my favorite thing—WRITING! Point in case. Maybe I should just end here. As promised, I’m beginning a series of posts on how social media impacts our mental state and has the potential to increase mental illness. If you want to start at the beginning and see what led me to start this research and discussion, pause for a moment and read Social Media Addiction: When God Commands You to Fast and Rest.
I’ve gone around and around on where to start with this discussion—do I start with the research on how social media impacts our brain, or do I start with the studies that show there is a correlation between mental health struggles and social media habits? Do I present the information like a full-fledged research paper, or do I just give you the basics of the information I found?
After a great deal of thought on where we are headed, I’ve decided we’ll begin with a basic discussion on mental health trends and social media use. Next week we’ll cover the basics of how it actually impacts our brain. In these posts, we will only scratch the surface of research, but I invite you to dig deeper if you are interested. What you will find may alarm you, convict you, and challenge you just like it did me.Read More
Hi, I’m Sydney, and I have a social media addiction. This addiction has subtly worsened my struggle with pride, it’s robbed me of precious family-time, and it’s caused emotional trauma that I wasn’t even aware of while it was happening. It’s an addiction that I believe many have but often goes unrecognized as such, and as a result, I think Satan easily uses it as a sneaky tool to manipulate, distract, and poison.Read More
